Educational Value
The mission of the Department of Art includes professional and public service contributions. In particular, the K-State Creative Arts Training Studio is summer program for high school students entering their junior and senior year. The purpose of the K-State Creative Arts Training Studio (kCATS) is to provide a college level visual arts experience. This 5-day residency will introduce students to college-level experiences such as working in area studios with department faculty, hands on artwork creation and portfolio building, and gallery installation and display. Students will also experience living in the dorms/student housing, using student dining facilities, and the surrounding Manhattan community. These experiences can help students evaluate potential majors or post-secondary pathways.
